Vernon Davis donates $7,500 in Under Armour Apparel to 49ers Academy
Here's an article about the 49ers Academy: San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis donated $7,500 in Under Armour gear to the San Francisco 49ers Academy today in East Palo Alto, Calif. The 49ers Academy is a public alternative school supported by a private non-profit agency for 6th, 7th and 8th graders in the community. "Sports have been such a big part of my life from the time I was a young student in P.E. class in Maryland," Davis said. "It's extremely important to me that students have the opportunity to participate in sports and I hope my donation will help the students of the 49ers Academy succeed." Davis, an Under Armour spokesperson, presented the gift, which will be used towards new Under Armour shorts, shirts and socks for students participating in the school's organized sports program, during two P.E. classes at the East Palo Alto location of the Academy. Davis is actively involved in supporting organizations in both of his hometown communities ? San Francisco and Washington D.C. In 2007, he made his first $10,000 donation to Newborn Pentecostal in honor of his grandmother, Adaline Davis, who raised him and his six siblings and has pledged to make the donation annually to help the church refurbish and expand its building.
