The Mercedes F1 team has been on a torrid run since the start of the 2024 season. After strong testing in Bahrain, the team has only slipped backward on the grid, and with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finishing Miami qualifying in a disappointing P7 and P8, Toto Wolff has given a damning take!

The Brackley-based team is currently the fourth fastest outfit behind the lights of Red Bull, Ferrari, and even McLaren. The team has not been able to get on top of the issues with the W15 and keeping this in view, Toto Wolff has even admitted that no one can really fix the problems with Mercedes’s 2024 challenger.

As things stand, the team has only managed to amass 52 points in the Constructors Championship.

Even the greatest magician would have difficulties in solving our problems. Toto Wolff said in an interview with Sky Germany

Looking at the short and crisp reaction of Austrian, his frustrations with the W15 are crystal clear. The car is nowhere near the level of rivals and this is one of the reasons why even the drivers have regularly bashed the machinery. Lewis Hamilton especially, has let his frustration known with the car on several occasions.

George Russell is content with Mercedes’ Miami quali performance

While Toto Wolff has lost hope around the W15, George Russell is trying to keep a positive frame of mind. He feels that Mercedes’ Miami qualifying performance was the best he and Hamilton could have managed in the lackluster W15.

Moreover, going ahead he wants his team to make regular steps to chase down the 2024 rivals.

We have to accept where we are at the moment. We are one step behind McLaren and Ferrari and a big step behind Red Bull. I think the result we showed today was the maximum. George Russell said in his post-quali interviews

Red Bull has been the most dominant team under the current set of F1 regulations, Ferrari on their end, has made a solid step this year and the same is the case with the Lando Norris-led McLaren. The only top team that has continually slipped backward is the Mercedes outfit.

Lewis Hamilton is leaving the team at the of this year, and thus, the onus is really on Toto Wolff and Co. to provide him with solid machinery. The Mercedes duo will start the upcoming 57-lap Miami GP from the fourth row on the grid.
