49ers could eye trade up for Brock Purdy weapon
Georgia tight end Brock Bowers (TE04) Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers own the 31st pick in the NFL Draft, but they may try to trade up to snag another weapon for quarterback Brock Purdy.

Grant Cohn of All 49ers mentions that the 49ers have been making calls around the league, seeing what it would take for them to move up into the teens in the draft if one of the top players on their board happens to fall that far down.

Cohn cites Georgia tight end Brock Bowers as one name to monitor.

Bowers has already been compared to George Kittle by some, so a pairing of Bowers and Kittle at the position would certainly be interesting for San Francisco.

Bowers is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he caught 56 passes for 714 yards and six touchdowns.

The 21-year-old spent three fantastic seasons at Georgia, beginning in 2021 when he snared 56 balls for 882 yards and a hefty 13 scores. Then, the following year, he hauled in 63 receptions for 942 yards while reaching the end zone seven times.

Bowers is considered one of the top pass-catchers in the draft class, so chances are, he probably won’t be available for very long.

That will make it rather difficult for the Niners to trade up for him, as it will take considerable draft capital for the 49ers to move up that far in the order.

Some even feel Bowers will be a top-10 pick, rendering the 49ers’ efforts useless.

San Francisco has some great weapons in its aerial attack, but with the possibility of losing wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk within the next year, the Niners may already be looking to restock.
