Fred Warner details why the 49ers' loss to Browns could be a blessing in disguise
USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers haven't had to experience a lot of defeats in recent times, which made their dramatic Week 6 loss to the Cleveland Browns even more difficult for them to accept.

Speaking on his podcast 'The Warner House', Niners All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner gave an insight into the emotions in the locker room after Jake Moody's missed field goal condemned San Francisco to a 19-17 upset.

"The vibes in the locker room after obviously were not the highest," said Warner. "It was down. You get in there and guys are sitting at their lockers, looking down. We talked about it going into the game, we knew it was going to be a hard-fought battle, but we knew it was a game that we should've won."

Explaining how the defeat could be beneficial for the 49ers, Warner added: "Another thing people don't realize is we're not used to losing, which is a great thing. It should sting because we're not used to losing. If we were used to losing we would go in there like, 'Oh, well. Let's hope we get them next time.' No, the standard has been winning every single week.

"So to start the season 5-0 and then you lose a game, it's like, 'Oh my god, I forgot what that feeling was like.' We hadn't lost a game since the NFC Championship Game last year. So it's good for us.

"You get scars in your career, you get scars as you go through hard things. I feel like I already have plenty of scars, I don't need any more scars. But that little scar right there allows me to have that feeling so then later on in the season, when you're in that moment, you're like, 'Aw, I don't want to feel that way again. I got to make something happen.' That's not to say I wasn't thinking that way already, but you just learn from it. It's a lesson, never a loss."

The 49ers will look to rediscover that winning feeling on Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7, a game that has special significance as it takes place at the scene of his first regular-season start back in 2018.

"My rookie year, that game, I was so nervous because it's my first start. They gave me the green dot to be the mic to call the plays, it's away on the road in a hostile environment," said Warner. "Back then, Minnesota -- I don't know how good they were at the time, but it felt like they were the best team in the league when I walked out there because you hear them horns blowing, and they're like, 'Skol! Skol! Skol!'

"I'm looking around like, 'What did I get myself into?' It was insane. It was so intense. I'll always remember those horns going off in the pregame. ... I'm sitting there as a young rookie like, 'Golly, I don't know if I'm confident.' But you take it one play at a time and you go on. I'm excited to hear the 'Skol' chants again."

The 49ers are expected to quickly silence the Minnesota crowd, with San Francisco a seven-point favorite to beat the Vikings.
