It's time for Cowboys RB Tony Pollard to 'Bear' down vs. Chicago

Tony Pollard needs to bear down Sunday.

According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Ezekiel Elliott suffered a partially torn right PCL in a 24-6 victory against the Lions. Elliott is not expected to play against the Bears Sunday, so Pollard will likely start.

It's an important opportunity for Pollard because he can show he's good enough to be a starting running back, proving he's a reliable option for the Cowboys if Elliott is injured for an extended period.

Through seven games, Pollard has played well, averaging 5.6 yards per carry and 53.6 yards per game. Both marks are career highs.

However, questions surround Pollard's ability to be a full-time running back. Some point to his blocking ability (or lack thereof) and size as concerns. He's only had one game in his career where he's had more than 14 carries, per Hill, as well.

Pollard knows a big game against Chicago increases his value.

"Whatever they ask of me to carry, I got it," Pollard said in a Wednesday news conference. "They call it, I'm gonna haul it."

He should tear through the Bears. Chicago has one of the worst rushing defenses in the league, with only the Lions and Texans giving up more rushing yards per game, and the Bears just traded one of their best players, defensive end Robert Quinn, to the Eagles.

Perhaps this sets the table for a breakout performance from Pollard, who has been getting calls for a more prominent role the past couple of seasons.
