MN Wild Recall Rookie From Iowa
Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Wild announced today that they have recalled forward Liam Ohgren from the Iowa Wild. Minnesota has just started a five-game road trip before they will end the season with one last home game. Ohgren will have his NHL debut in Las Vegas when the Wild play the Golden Knights on Friday.

Ohgren was drafted by Minnesota during the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft at 19th overall. He has played three games with the Iowa Wild this season since coming over from Sweden. He was assigned to Iowa on April 2, 2024. Ohgren signed a three-year entry-level contract on July 16th, 2022. He will wear number 28 with Minnesota.

During his 26 games this season with Färjestad BK in the Swedish Elite League, Ohgren scored 19 points (12 goals and 7 assists). Ohgren also served as the captain of Sweden’s team in the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship and earned a silver medal while scoring 3 assists in the 7 games.

Ohgren plays on the wing and has shown steady development that projects him to be a top-six forward once he’s acclimated to the NHL. He brings some size with him, which should appease those who think Minnesota needs to physically bulk up. Ohgren has some offensive ability while also being defensively responsible. He’s a good skater, especially through the neutral zone and he drives play to the net to set up plays.
